2D ARTWORK
Lauren's art portfolio explores the vibrant intersection of Korean and American cultures through creations of multimedia and digital design. Based on Lauren's photography, each piece is a reflection of her experience balancing the complexities of Korean American life in identity, tradition, and modernity. With a focus on highlighting the nuances of Korean-American life, Lauren uses a variety of techniques and styles to illustrate how she has balanced Korean and American cultures throughout her life.
SELECTED WORKS
Growing up, Lauren felt isolated from any sense of Korean culture beyond her family, leading to many dilemmas concerning identity. This deficit in exposure to Lauren's native culture has made it tempting to accustom to the American norms and deprioritize her Asian side. However, Lauren learned to find honor in her identity and is interested in embracing both her cultures. Being cross cultured has sculpted Lauren's confidence and independence by allowing her to be prideful of both of her cultures. The use of braids throughout Lauren's artwork represents the balance she has found between her cultures. The colors of the braid represent the eastern versus western norms that commonly contradict one another. Weaved into one another, these strands elicit the different ways that Lauren's cultural norms from both sides of her life have become integral to one another. Throughout Lauren's portfolio she utilizes self portraits to reflect her personal growth in discovering her identity and pride as an Asian American. The self portraits exhibit different stages of Lauren's life and the journey to becoming the person she has grown into today.

Originally starting off as a hobby, Lauren expanded her love of photography during high school. Fulfilling different roles as Publicist, Historian, and Social Media Chair for multiple organizations, Lauren has used photography as a channel for connection.During her sophomore year, Lauren began to branch out into video editing. Using her own videos and photographs, she began creating short advertisements and films for the morning announcements and social media. Lauren’s video productions showcase her sharp eye and creativity.All of Lauren’s media creation is sourced by her love of community; she is dedicated and eager to document everyone’s cherished moments in order to capture timeless memories. Lauren has grown a love for media creation and hopes to continue to fulfill this passion throughout her lifetime.

Lauren utilizes art as a way to illuminate her past and present experiences. From a young age, Lauren has been driven by her vivid imagination to create a wide array of pieces. While she has explored many artistic mediums, during her teenage years, Lauren focused primarily on multimedia and graphic design. Photography is the base of all of Lauren's work, as she enjoys capturing subjects from her life and likes to keep an aspect of realism in all of her work. The heart of Lauren's mission is to capture the memories and emotions that have shaped who she is today. Each piece invites viewers to experience life through her unique lens.
